Libra New Moon: Walk in Beauty

The hard surface of the stone
is impervious to nothing in the end.
The heat of the sun
leaves evidence of daylight.
Each drop of rain changes the form;
even the wind and the air itself,
invisible to our eyes,
etches its presence...
I have come to believe
that every life bears in some way
on every other. The motion
of cause and effect
is like the motion of a wave in water,
continuous, within and not without
the matrix of being so that all consequences,
whether we know them or not,
are intimately embedded in our experience...

The New Moon on October 21, 2025, at 28° Libra
invites us to engage life
on our own terms
and commit to enacting
radical acts of love to meet
the imbalances and shadows
that are abundant and numerous.
We may be encountering one or multiple circumstances that threaten to discourage or shut us down. We are to see that we have an inner strength that was not available in the past. Challenges are surmountable if with move through our days attuned to an innate sense of harmony and an inborn desire to love the world and all life as it arrives. Taking each step one at a time, we are to actively choose moment by moment to recognize the beauty inherent in the wonderous unfolding of creation to which we are part. There may be difficult decisions we need to make, or we may be closing out or ending some part of our life, or we may be facing some new and unknown future. To meet the challenge in front of us, we are to reach for a deeper and more expansive love that offers compassion for where we find ourselves and then lifts us towards the dream we imagine is possible.

The New Moon is the optimal time each month to set an intention for what we want to see manifest over the next four weeks of the lunar cycle that is beginning. We are to plant this seed intention in the 24-hour window after the exact moment of the New Moon, when the Moon is still dark and not yet visible again in the night sky.
The house where 28° Libra is located in our natal charts shows us the areas of life where are ready to move beyond old patterns that prevent us from fully loving. It is an area of life where we are prepared to engage in a radical act of love.

There was a child went forth every day,
And the first object he looked upon
and received with wonder
or pity or love or dread,
that object he became,
And that object became part of him
for the day or a certain part of the day ...
or for many years or stretching cycles of years...

Libra is the Sign of Love
More than ever, we want our relationships and surroundings to mirror the harmony our heart yearns to realize. Libra evokes the divine feminine, the receptive, and the beautiful. And yet, astrologically speaking, Libra is masculine in nature. This means that it is not just about feeling love or having loving thoughts. We are to actively and courageously express our love, initiating new pathways to creating harmony, fairness and beauty.
What one thing can we do to infuse our life with love?
New Moon Ruler: Venus. With Venus unaspected and in her own sign of Libra, our Venusian nature is operating purely, unwilling to compromise our ideals of beauty and fairness. Venus amplifies our desire to break away from custom, to move away from pleasing people as a way to establish harmony and instead to go against the grain of expectation to be true to ourselves and how we feel called to walk in beauty. Venus is approaching an opposition with Neptune for the next week which can loosen our grip on perceiving a situation realistically. Instead, we see the potential, the dream of what we want to see. This does not make this an optimal time for signing contracts or assessing the value of a new relationship, but it is fantastic for creating art, diving in spiritual practice, having dreams with rich symbolism, or with falling in love with life all over again.

In beauty I walk
With beauty before me I walk
With beauty behind me I walk
With beauty above me I walk
With beauty around me I walk
It has become beauty again
It has become beauty again
It has become beauty again
It has become beauty again

It is Challenging to Love and Easier Not To
The New Moon is in a challenging relationship with all the outer planets. We may discover our emotional temperament is not a match to our ideals. Reality offers contrast to our notions of justice and balance. It is time for us to grow emotionally and to let go of attachments to the past so we can embrace the new world that is taking shape in the wake of old forms falling away.
The New Moon is under great stress entangled with a rare Small Grand Trine in effect until 2027 and involves the four outer planets (Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto). These planets are transpersonal in nature and catalyze transformation on a collective level. The harmonious relationship between these outer planets has not been seen since the early fourth century AD. With big changes assuredly coming our way, this Small Grand Trine portends fantastic innovation and potential for upleveling human consciousness. Yet, the Moon, representing our personal needs and feelings, is at odds with the changes happening. There are dreams and people and things to let go of to make way for something new and different. Rather than holding onto patterns and habits just because they are familiar, we are to believe in the power of our love as we emotionally let go of old ways of establishing safety and security, and instead reach for a new ideal, a new dream we feel called to realize.
The New Moon in a Cardinal Cross with Jupiter, Pluto and Chiron. In the desire for meaning and purpose in our life, we more readily recognize imbalances and discordance, and look for the ways we have agency to address this. We have been healing issues of confidence and are more ready than ever to stand for what empowers us and not be swayed by trends or what is popular.
If we can identify how we overlay past hurts onto the present, we can see life through fresh eyes. Rather than finding fault with something outside us, we find strength in discovering what we can do to create a more loving world. Deep feelings and desires may compel us to take a leap to establish greater connection. We can access the strength and depth of our loving nature, giving us the courage to be vulnerable and take a risk that causes us to lead from our heart.
The New Moon is at the Apex of a Yod with Saturn, Neptune and Uranus. We are emotionally uncomfortable and on edge. Life is changing. What once had us feel comfortable and safe may no longer be an option. There are responsibilities, tensions and challenges that have us feeling unsettled. World conditions and life circumstances stimulate and activate emotions, keeping us charged up and vigilant. Growth comes with the friction; by loving as we have never loved before, we rise up instead of collapse.
Love is not a feeling; it is a verb. It is found in the actions we initiate. We are to let the friction caused by imbalances and injustice inspire us to commit acts of love. It is not a time to bemoan our fate, blame another, or hope that fate will be kind to us. The world is changing, and it is the quality of our love and the power that results from the act of our loving that will guide the shape our world will take in the days and months to come. And it doesn't require huge acts of love or grand gestures that win awards. It is in the everyday acts of love that are given frequently and repeatedly that can color the world anew with beauty.
Love is Found in Action
Water Grand Trine with Mars, Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn
To move with water, is to move with feeling. The Water Grand Trine creates powerful movement propelled by powerful feeling. We can readily articulate our deepest desires and state core truths about what matters most to us (Mars conjunct Mercury in Scorpio). We have clarity around our what we want to see happen, the confidence to walk our talk, and act in alignment with our heart's desire so we live in greater harmony with our self and all life. (Mars/Mercury trine both Jupiter and Saturn). For the next weeks, powerful strides can be made to put into practice ways to nurture ourself as we integrate the big endings and changes that are unfolding in real time (Jupiter trine Saturn).

not because it’s imperfect,
but to see what was always there.

Currently I am traveling through the South of France...
retracing the footsteps of Mary Magdalene in France, as revealed in the stories passed down through the generations here in the regions of Languedoc, the Aude and Provence.
My experience of the New Moon is colored by the landscapes I am traversing, both inner and outer, on a pilgrimage of love and of devotion to the divine feminine.
What is striking to me on my journey is that the approach to a sacred site has offered a more impactful experience than what I experienced at any given site. In general, the sites associated with Mary Magdalene or the Cathars (a tradition believed to have sprung up from her presence and teachings in this region of the world) require a steep climb up a mountainside. To make the journey to a site associated with her takes time. It tends to be arduous, in that beyond just being steep, it tends to be rocky or involve natural rock stairs.
As I walk, I must be mindful where I place each foot. I am in silence listening to the sounds of the woods or forest. I am present to myself and to the beauty around me. I am contemplating where I am going, propelled by the desire to find something once I arrive. Periodically, I find myself wondering how much further I have to go, and I always find in me the strength needed to arrive at my designation. And... time and again, I found that the greatest reward was in the journey itself and the sense of satisfaction in having taken it.
I also contemplate Mary Magdalene as I walk, and I feel her most when I imagine her walking. Until she at last sat down in a cave in St. Baume Mountain in Provence for the final years of her life, she was walking. She was always walking away from something familiar and towards something unknown. She was perpetually walking towards something that would inevitably enlarge her understanding and connection to the world and to what enlivens the world. In her walking, she covered great distances, both inner and outer.
Her life story can be found in her walking and how she walked - first alongside Jesus and then into her own ministry. Her walking was in itself an act of love - a love of the divine, a love of learning, of healing and a love of her people. The purity of her heart had her recognize truth when she heard it and helped her to become whole through the wisdom and love she received from Jesus. With an awakened heart, she came to walk in beauty, and she found beauty wherever she went - a beauty that was inside and outside her, above, below and all around.
So, it is less about where we arrive, and more about the love we express with each step we take along the way. It may not be easy. We may fail multiple times a day in our loving. Yet, it is the task of tasks. What other option is there, really? With the New Moon can recommit to a practice of loving that we can enact each moment of the day - for it is in our practice of love that we can find the inner balance and harmony that will form the foundation for the future that is taking shape.
