It takes a lot of courage
to release the familiar
and seemingly secure,
to embrace the new.
But there is no real
security in what is
no longer meaningful.
Alan Cohen

The Solar Eclipse on September 21, 2025, at 29° Virgo
proclaims that the time has come for our life to function in a different way and there are actions we are to take now to facilitate this. The house where 29° Virgo resides in our natal chart reflects the area of life where endings and new beginnings are likely to occur (i.e., our home, career, relationships, routines, health, spirituality or finances).
The eclipse calls us draw upon a spiritual maturity to embrace the impermanence of life so we can identify and let go of what is already more connected with our past then our future. Grounded in an awareness of the eternal unseen, we feel the play of life, the shifting sands of time and remember that nothing is meant to endure. We intuit that we are perpetually moving, learning, experimenting, and changing all the time. Understanding that life is not meant to be static and security is an illusion, we can more easily complete and release what no longer works or has outlived its time, so we can be freed up to embrace dawning potentials.
I call this Eclipse 50 shades of Letting Go because the astrology of 2025 in one way or another, with large and small transits, retrogrades or eclipses, announces over and over that this is a time of endings that will lead to grand new beginnings. In different ways, in different shades and from different angles and perspectives, the message is the same: Let Go. And there many ways to let go, and different layers of letting go. If we can end what is ready to end and not try to hold on or go back to reclaim what is already leaving us, then we can move with the transformative change that humanity is undergoing that will impact each of us in some form.

A Solar Eclipse marks a turning point that yields fresh beginnings accompanied by timely endings. When this occurs at the last degree of a sign, the potential shifts come with an intensity and urgency. The 29° point represents completion. It provides a bookmark that notes where a chapter of life is closing and where we are turning of a page to embark in a new direction. But to turn that page, we must leave something behind.
A Lunar Node conjunct the New Moon creates a Solar Eclipse. The lunar nodes stimulate the karmic past to be resolved and future potentials we are ready to embrace. The Solar Eclipse is a South Node eclipse indicating that there is something to let go of so we can reach for the new beginning that is opening.
The Eclipse Path moves across New Zealand, Australia, the South Pacific Islands and Antarctica. While the eclipse has the potential for greater impact to these areas, its effects are global and mark a time when powerful shifts may happen in our life.
The second consecutive New Moon in Virgo. The Virgo New Moon in August at 0° introduced the process of cleaning house, re-organizing our life, and courageously sweeping the old out of the house of our life. The Solar Eclipse is at the last degree of Virgo: 29° - degree of finality - signifying that something is ready to leave our life.
It can be as simple as releasing possessions that clog our home, saying goodbye to an old friend who exhausts more than supports us, or it can be as life changing as giving notice at a job or deciding to move across the country. If this time is about saying "Yes" to something new like a relationship or the launching of our own business, then perhaps what needs to be released is psychological or behavior patterns that diminish us. Virgo has us desire greater health and so there may be a habit that compromises our health we are ready to drop once and for all. We are being called to surrender something that no longer serves us or the future we wish to build.

Holding on is believing
that there's only a past;
letting go is knowing
that there's a future.

'The Times, They are a Changin'*
I feel like a broken record.
In one more newsletter this year,
with one more New or Full Moon,
with one more set of astrological alignments
That seem to scream: Let Go. Release,
I write about how a chapter of our life is ending.
A new chapter is ready to begin, which
may be a radical departure from what we are living.
Unprecedented change is at our doorstep.
We need to move with the current
So we don't get pulled under or left behind.
2025 is about Big Endings.
It has happening collectively and individually.
We are to recognize what no longer has life for us.
It can be something tangible like a job, person, or home.
It can be something intangible, like an past hurt
Perceiving ourselves as a victim,
or not believing in ourself.
It is human nature to want to hold onto what we have,
To be wary of the untried and the unknown.
Yet, here we are, together,
On the precipice of seismic change,
and we are being encouraged to take a leap of faith.
This is a time that will featured in tomorrow’s history books.
So, this Solar Eclipse post is in a different format.
Rather than just repeat myself over and over, one more time
In response to what the planets are reflecting to us –
I am going to let go of the way I usually write,
and in the spirit of the Eclipse,
offer my words in a different way.
What signifies that ware in a time of endings
that bring us to the brink of a new beginning?
The Eclipse occurs at the last degree of a sign,
a degree that denotes endings.
Saturn has retrograded back to the last degree of Pisces.
The sign of Pisces, as the last sign in the zodiac, is about endings.
Pisces is about the dissolution of forms and what we know.
The last degree of Pisces (29°) is Final Big Endings.
Autumn is About Slowing Down and Backing Up
So we can bring something to Completion
Saturn and Neptune together crossed over
From Pisces to Aries late spring...giving us a taste
Of the new beginning.
And now...
Saturn has turned Retrograde,
returning to Pisces until February 12, 2026.
Soon Neptune will retrograde back into Pisces
And hang out at 29 Pisces from
October 22 – January 26, 2025.
We must go back to go forward.
There is something to be done that is still incomplete.
Before the new dream can take off,
There is work to recognize
what needs to be turned over
and become part of our past.
We are to release what weighs us down
So we do not become entangled in the past,
holding onto something
that keeps us from being present
And embracing who we can become.
Saturn opposes the Eclipse,
Brings a weightiness and seriousness,
Slowing us down to review and get clear
On what does not work,
On what we have lost that we cannot get back,
On what we are to say goodbye to.
Saturn oppose the Eclipse says:
If we want a different result, change out
a routine or habit that diminishes or robs us of vitality;
Release an old burden or system that has gone on too long;
We may need to leave behind something solid that
We built over time and thought would endure,
But now have the clarity to see will not
Endure as we once thought.

Health

Mental Discernment
Ask ourselves
What could I release to gain better health?
What do I serve, and what can I release so I can better serve?
What can I do to create better order and balance in my daily life?
Is there something I have backburnered or shoved under the carpet
That I need to face, deal with, resolve and put behind me?

Anything you cannot relinquish
when it has outlived its usefulness
possesses you, and
in this materialistic age
a great many of us
are possessed by our possessions
Peace Pilgrim
Astrological Alignments Supporting us
to Accept the Solar Eclipse Invitation
Solar Eclipse Co-Ruler: Mercury
(in an Air Grand Trine and conjunct the Eclipse)
We are not alone.
We are not meant to go it alone through
The passage of endings and beginnings.
We are to find ways to reach out to others,
connect and make joint plans
towards common goals.
Solar Eclipse Co-Ruler: Chiron in a Cardinal Grand Cross
Chiron shows us what we are healing –
In recent years we are healing self-esteem and confidence.
The Grand Cross with Chiron indicates we are at a crisis point.
To resolve inner conflict,
we must - first and foremost -
value ourselves
And have the courage to rock the boat
To assert what is important to us.
We desire to make others happy,
To serve and to keep the peace,
But we have reached a point
Where we can no longer do this
at the expense of denying the truth
Of who we are and what we are about.
We may need to take a stand that may result
In saying goodbye to something we thought would endure.
We are willing to take a risk because
There is no longer any value in investing
In something that keeps us small
and zaps our self-esteem.
Air Grand Trine with Pluto and Uranus –
Our mind is invigorated with new ideas and
A depth of thought that has us perceive truths.
We are subject to flashes of brilliant insight,
Receptive to thoughts about the future
Open to progressive future-oriented views,
That offer a different way of doing things
That may include new people and partnerships.
Be receptive to unexpected Messages
That arrive through Insights, emails, and communications,
that might give our mind a jolt.
Powerful thoughts can come crashing into our consciousness
About what needs to be reset and changed.
Keep our minds open.
The Shadow of the Eclipse
If found when we give way
to anxiety, worry and overthinking.
When this occurs, relax and open to receive
What is ready to flood into our consciousness.
Virgo is about rational discernment and in doing something.
The North Node is Pisces reminds us
This needs to be balanced with
trusting intuition and receiving.
Venus square Uranus –
If plans or routines are disturbed,
This may be beneficial, jolting us
out of an automatic way of operating
Compelling us to be on our toes, to adjust and flex.
The habitual, which was once comforting,
May have become deadening.
A cosmic alarm clock maybe
Waking us up, so do not sleepwalk through our days.
We feel more, are aware of more,
And we look to those in our life to do the same,
And not just engage us in a habitual, automatic way.
The Fall Equinox on September 22.
A new season arrives in the wake of the eclipse;
The Moon enters Libra an hour after eclipse
followed by the Sun a day later;
A new balance is sought
In how we show up with others.
Relationship dynamics and communications
Are elevated as we look to align
Those we care about with
What matters to us now
And the decisions we are making
so that our relationships do not pull us
Back into an old version of ourself
or into something that once mattered
But no longer holds our interest.
We will look for ways our current relationships
Can evolve with us
And discover new people and connections
That share a future dream.

An Analogy: The Virgo Solar Eclipse
I am reminded of a massage therapist
That presses their thumbs on a specific point of the body,
Commonly called a ‘trigger point’.
The trigger point is a complex of muscles and nerves
That have become jammed up.
Pressing on it, releases it.
We are to welcome the increased discomfort
As the cosmic thumb of the universe
Presses on what is bound up in our lives
So it can release the energy
And open us to greater flow and ease.
It is not only passive;
We need to bring our awareness to the pressure point
And make some decisions
So that the release point doesn’t simply return to its current state
After the New Year when the eclipse energies reside. d
*As I edit and this post to send, '
the song The Times, they are A-Changin by Bob Dylan
is playing on a loop in my head:
Come gather 'round, people, wherever you roam
And admit that the waters around you have grown
And accept it that soon you'll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you is worth saving
And you better start swimmin' or you'll sink like a stone
For the times, they are a-changin'
Come writers and critics who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide, the chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon, for the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who that it's namin'
For the loser now will be later to win
For the times, they are a-changin'...
