Virgo New Moon: Anchors Down, Sails Up
If we are always arriving
and departing, it is also true
that we are eternally anchored.
One's destination is never
a place but rather a new way
of looking at things.
Henry Miller

The New Moon on September 10/11, 2026, at 18° Virgo
brings attention to making improvements within our daily routines and schedule to strengthen our mind/body connection. Anchoring ourselves in daily habits we establish or re-establish now, will create the container to receive and alchemize the changes, deep insights and opportunities that greet us as the year continues to unfold. A new awareness or fact we receive now may alter our life course or daily life in some measurable way.

The house in our natal chart where 18° Virgo resides illuminates the area of life where we are to update our routine and discern what to schedule or remove from our life.
The houses where the early degrees of Aquarius, Gemini, and Libra reside show us where we may have a sudden insight or awareness that opens our mind to a new perspective, solution or deep truth.
The optimal time set an intention for what we want to manifest over the month is within 24 hours after the exact moment of the New Moon, when the Moon has been quickened by the Sun and yet is still dark and not yet visible again in the night sky.

In order to realize
the worth of the anchor
we need to feel the stress

Seeing the Forest And the Trees
The Virgo New Moon zeros in on what we do every day without us losing the context of a decade and year and time when our personal and collective psyche and life is undergoing transformative change. Using the analogy of seeing the forest for the trees, we are being asked to welcome insights about the scope of the forest as we prioritize bringing a magnifying glass to the needs and care of a tree.
As an earth sign, Virgo brings us down to the ground, to the mundane and details of what strings together a day. We are to assess what activities serve us, what are a distraction, and what grounds or drains us. How we conducted ourselves last year or even over the summer may not be what is currently needed as we assess how we want to mindfully and thoughtfully shape the rhythm of our day with household chores, spiritual practices, self-care routines, social commitments, our work schedule, and how we find the balance between these.
The New Moon does not permit a ‘time out’ to tend to the habits that anchor and ground us. We may need to tend to our routines while we also move to a new home, start a new venture, or process insights or information that alter how we see the big picture. We are encouraged to slow down, practice mindfulness, and to prioritize time to create or re-enforce daily habits that will help us stay grounded and anchored to the earth, our body and heart.
We can discern what is practical, effective, and realistic as we determine what will stay in our daily life and what will remove. It is beneficial to explore how we can better organize possessions, our schedule and our thoughts. Looking at our calendar, re-evaluate what are our priorities and what we can realistically accomplish. It is timely to draw boundaries around what is needed and what is not, what overwhelms or drains us that we can shift, and what is needed to create a satisfying life. In the next couple weeks, let us commit or recommit to the mundane routines and rituals we will stick with, and weed out the habits that do not support our well-being.
A new awarenesses or piece of information we receive may inform what needs changing. For instance, yesterday I was told I need to spend time off my feet, which thrust me into a process of rearranging my schedule for the next weeks and the whole way I move through my day. How I socialize, work, shop and eat are being rethought. My daily routine of walking, tai chi and often strength training are suddenly contraindicated so I can heal my persistent plantar fasciitis. My exercises are all moving to the mat. With time freed up, I am thinking of including something new, like a breathwork practice. While you may not be looking at sweeping changes right now, chances are there may be a new routine you can introduce, and one you can retire, so your current needs are better met.
Unexpected news or new information may ask that we pivot. As Uranus stations retrograde, its energy is amplified. Facts are amplified. Important decisions we need to make are amplified. Something hidden or overlooked may come to light in a dramatic way.

...to the soul,
the most minute details
and the most ordinary activities,
carried out with mindfulness
and art, have an effect
far beyond their apparent
insignificance.

Conversations Illuminate and Reveal
New Moon Co Ruler, Mercury at o° Libra
In a Air Grand Trine with Pluto and Uranus
Oppose Neptune
Arriving in Libra, Mercury comes into relationship with the signature dynamic of 2026 - the rare small grand trine (Pluto, Uranus and Neptune) and the potent energy that is sparking innovation and awakening on a personal and mass scale. We are being given a depth of thought and opportunity for awakenings. The kicker is that we may not be able to discern a flight of fancy from brilliant insight. Truths about ourselves, a situation, or life can be revealed, but we are cautioned to examine how much of what we are perceiving is being filtered through our beliefs or what we want to believe. It serves us to take the insight to the mat, to the daily routine that helps ground and anchor us, so we can process and understand what it is we are seeing. Or we can bring discuss our insights with others and listen to their feedback.
Mercury invites us to be in relationship with others, to socialize and collaborate with others. The adage 'to heads are better than one' is applicable here as the new moon energies do not encourage that we try to solve or understand things on our own. We can have new revelations or see something in a new way through what others bring to the table. We may be surprised by what develops from a conversation. Even a passing interaction can open our mind to something we weren’t seeing. We are ready to discuss bigger ideas, projects, plans that include creating ways to gather with others. It is a good time to make travel plans for the holiday season, plan a reunion or a wedding, or social event.
The Deep Questions and Concerns
New Moon Co-Ruler Chiron, at 0 Taurus
Mystic Rectangle with the Nodes of Fate and oppose Venus
In a Fixed T Square with Pluto and Venus
Chiron, the Wounded Healer, speaks to the deeper pulse of what is operating beneath the pragmatic impulse of the Virgo New Moon and the brilliant and chatty Mercury in Libra.
Chiron recently moved into Taurus, drawing us into the wisdom of our body and the unprocessed emotions and wounds that our body holds. We may find ourselves asking deeper questions around how we can trust and be more at home in our body. The big conversations the Libran Mercury want to have are supported as we are more in tune with our deepest needs and concerns.
We are likely to be more aware of fears, desires, powerlessness, or insecurity. We need to do more than objectively think or talk about them. We need to make space to feel and engage them. With Chiron in Taurus until 2033, we are to discover new ways to befriend our body and become more embodied. As we more and more engage AI, an intelligence that has no body or heart or feelings, it is essential that we do not sync with or try to follow its example. There will be a cultural tendency to live more in our head, and to devalue or disconnect from our body, feelings and heart, Chiron in Taurus compels us to be aware of our humanity and to have practices or a way of living that allows us to listen to and respond to the earth and our body’s wisdom.
The Mystic Rectangle reminds us that we are to align with a purpose larger than ourselves and to collaborate with others to achieve this. This produces a dynamic tension around how we can do this and still honor our humanity and personal needs. Our body has feelings and limitations which we must balance with the larger vision we are to serve.
The Virgo New Moon reminds us that these two urges are not in conflict with each other. Our body connects us with the earth and way to deeply listen to the soul of things. By taking care of and listening to our body, we can have the clarity and groundedness to hold a large vision. It is only because we have a body that we can manifest. Without the anchoring of healthy and balanced daily routines, we can easily become untethered and swept away, like a kite who has broken free of the kite string.
The Fixed T Square stirs deep feelings around worth, connection and security. Venus is in her pre-shadow zone and moves into Scorpio at the New Moon. There is a truth, need or fear we are to face. Scorpio rules big things like finances, intimacy, sex and death. There is a tension between what we desire to have happen and what reality is showing us. Pluto is stirring a collective fear around money and scarcity that needs to be faced.
Deep questions will be plumbed as Venus spends an extended time in Scorpio due to her upcoming Retrograde (October 3 – November 13). Rather than her typical six weeks in a sign, she will not fully leave Scorpio until early January. We will be more aware of what is operating in our subconscious, beneath the surface of our daily life. We may pose questions that seek insight on what it is all about and about the worth of what we are doing.
In October to Mid-November when Venus is Retrograde, we are to listen to and trust our feelings and to not shy away from the questions that can real more about what is true for us. We are to not give over to a false sense of urgency that could compel us to make an impulsive or rash decision in the hopes of alleviating discomfort. Its best we stay in a process of discovery.

It’s the small habits.
How you spend your mornings.
How you talk to yourself.
What you read. What you watch.
Who you share your energy with.
Who has access to you.
That will change your life.

Raise the Sail, Unveil the New Horizon
Koo She, a second magnitude fixed star in the constellation Vela
The constellation Vela is the Sail of the Argo, the Greek ship that Jason and the Argonauts sailed on for their many heroic adventures. Aligned with the New Moon, Vela reminds us that anchoring ourselves in daily routines is a means to an end, and not the end itself – hence the newsletter's title: anchors down, sails up. I do know that you typically don’t do both of these actions at the same time, however, we live in interesting times.
Vela comes the Latin noun for sail, curtain or veil. It refers to a large, woven sheet of cloth that can cover, hide or reveal.
An unveiling is promised with Vela illuminated by the New Moon. Something will be unfurled and made apparent to us. This further reinforces the revelatory potential offered by Mercury and Uranus. There is a 'pulling back of the curtain' or 'a lifting of the veil' to reveal what has been hidden. Using my example from earlier, a truth was revealed around what it will take for my feet to heal. For you, it may be something with your work, or a relationship, or with finances.
Let us take September to establish or re-establish the daily routines and practices that will shape our days so we can raise the sail in response to the wind that comes up to change or better inform our course. And may we welcome the lifting of the veil between us and the feelings, motivations and truths that lay hidden from our conscious mind, so that we can hear the truths they have to show us about our journey.
