Sagittarius New Moon: What If...

The Journey

Above the mountains

the geese turn into

the light again

Painting their

black silhouettes

on an open sky.

Sometimes everything

has to be

inscribed across

the heavens

so you can find

the one line

already written

inside you.

Sometimes it takes

a great sky

to find that

first, bright

and indescribable

wedge of freedom

in your own heart.

Sometimes with

the bones of the black

sticks left when the fire

has gone out

someone has written

something new

in the ashes of your life.

You are not leaving.

Even as the light fades quickly now,

you are arriving.

The New Moon on Dec 19, 2025, at 28° Sagittarius

taps into the energetics surrounding the powerful shifts coming in 2026, allowing us a sneak peak at a new dream we will dedicate ourselves to realizing.

2026 is not just a new year, it is the dawn of a new era for us as individuals and as a collective. The Sagittarian New Moon opens a portal to a new way of seeing and a new idea that will shape our future. Clarity around a vision will appear while we play, travel, meditate, make art, or engage in some form of diversion from mundane life and routines. We are also to see what must to be tied up and closed out so are free to reach for the dream taking shape in our consciousness.

Let us loosen our grip on commitments and schedules and let our attention wander away from the clock or world news. Freeing ourself up, even for a period of hours, can open our imagination, give rise to spiritual or creative yearnings that allow us to meander, dream and have the flexibility to follow a whim or idea with abandon. In this realm, beyond logically thinking things through and getting things done, there are awakenings, insights and new ways of seeing waiting to break through into our consciousness. A restlessness and desire for greater freedom may embolden us to take a risk, to contemplate an unexplored territory and push the boundaries around how we define ourself and what we want to bring into our life.

The New Moon is

Conjunct Venus and Mars

Square Saturn and Neptune

Quincunx Uranus

Conjunct the Galactic Center

The New Moon Ruler: Jupiter square Chiron and trine Saturn

The house in our natal chart where 28 Sagittarius resides lights up the area of life where we are ready for a new adventure, where a new dream is ready to take hold.

The New Moon is the optimal time each month to set an intention for what we want to see manifest over the next four weeks of the lunar cycle that is beginning. We are to plant this seed intention in the 24-hour window after the exact moment of the New Moon, when the Moon is still dark and not yet visible again in the night sky.

Play the Fool

The New Moon dynamics remind of the Tarot card called: The Fool. A 22 Major Arcana in a Tarot deck of cards each represents a life lesson associated with a spiritual theme and initiatory event.  The Arcana cards are numbered from 1 – 21 with The Fool assigned both the 22 and the O - marking the beginning and the end of a life cycle.

The Fool is depicted as carrying a knapsack, indicating that he is traveling and traveling light. Unencumbered by excessive baggage, he is free to move as he pleases. Gazing upwards towards a distant point, his gaze is on a distant goal or vision. He does not notice that his front foot has just stepped off a cliff.  It appears that the next step will have him leave solid ground all together.

Logic would conclude that the next step will have the Fool fall to certain death. But the Fool is operating on something other than logic. If the Fool is truly following his soul’s calling or his heart’s longing, than something will occur to carry the Fool across the chasm. He falls only if his journey is foolhardy or foolish.

We each have drawn the Fool Card for the New Moon. We are to give over to the impulse to wander, letting imagination be our guide, to let ourselves be drawn by appeals to us in the moment. Let us heed the call for adventure and step away - for a time - from the prosaic life of tasks and goals, schedules and timelines, and instead let ourselves meander, dream, and open to the poetic way of moving about and discovering what's next.

Options are limited if we adhere to well-worn paths and solid ground. The future requires letting go of what know about how to get from one point to another. It requires letting ourselves color outside the lines in order to pick up the trail that inspires us about what we want to offer to a future where we have faith in ourselves, life, nature, and other people. If we step toward the dream that calls us, the canyon of impasse will appear, but so will the bridge or the steps or means that will carry us across the canyon. Like the Fool, we are to relax our rational mind and let go of the rulebook that informs us on how things work in favor of trusting our inner fire - that enthusiasm - that will guide us towards the life we were born to live.

In the story of the Holy Grail, Parsifal, the Fool, was the one knight who could find the Grail Castle. In Lord of the Rings, it was Frodo, the Fool that was entrusted with the ring. We have only to schedule time to play the Fool, to drop logic and responsibilities and let our heart take us on a journey into activities that spark our imagination and the inspiration that will open us to the new life that wants to emerge. We are looking for change. We can feel it coming. The New Moon tells us it is not coming to us if we lean on our expertise, on the knowledge of what we know, but through playing the Fool and remaining open to where life and the day wants to take us.

A Spirit of Adventure Carries Us Inward

Fire and Water

Four planets are in the sign of Sagittarius (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus)

Mars and the Moon traveling Out of Bounds (outside the path of the Ecliptic)

It may be time to plan a trip or take a hike. We need to move, be in our body, see life from new vistas. A restlessness has us desiring greater freedom, more flexibility. We may give ourselves permission to relax the rules and take a risk in our desire to move, expand, grow and trust ourselves. Not wanting to be hemmed in by other’s expectations, we can unstick ourselves from patterns that have inhibited our growth and sense of freedom.

Sagittarius is the constellation of the Archer. With his feet planted on the earth, his bow raised, his gaze and drawn arrow are aimed at the Galactic Center. His aim, his gaze is at the point in the universe where energy is streaming into our galaxy - the source of new life and new creation for our universe. The New Moon has added power because it is conjunct the Galactic Center, attuning us to the new life emerging. We, too, are gazing at some distant point, and if we can let the distractions and responsibilities of daily life fall away, we can attune feel what is streaming through the Galactic Center that has our name on it.

Jupiter, ruler of the New Moon, is in a water sign as is Neptune and Saturn, indicating that journey involves our feelings and intuition. The New Moon adventure involves something beyond fiery Sagittarian pursuits that might have us climbing a mountain, testing our physical endurance or taking a bold action in the world. The adventure we are to take needs to incorporate and connect us with our feelings.

In Cancer, Jupiter brings attention to patterns of self care and the ways we are nurtured.  Our desire to belong, to feel safe, to heal early childhood dynamics shape the New Moon adventure. To move towards the new era of life opening for us as individuals and as a collective, we need to be strong in our body and in daily rituals that foster overall wellbeing.

Jupiter in Mutual Reception with he Sagittarian Moon means they are in good rapport because Jupiter is in the sign of the Moon (Cancer) and the Moon is in Jupiter’s sign (Sagittarius). This supports us in finding a loving connection with our family and self, and to open up our thinking of who we include and call family. The adventure for our future that takes us out into the world is connected to and integral to the exploration we take into creating well being in our private lives.

Neptune has a strong influence (at the last degree of Pisces and square the New Moon). Its brings in an ethereal, mystical overly on top of the Adventurous Sagittarian New Moon. Neptune can remove the path forward all together, forcing us to walk on intuition to guide our direction. This can stir confusion within us. We may feel fatigue that we have been able to keep at bay. Rather than charging towards adventure, the adventure may be found in rest or in allowing ourselves to move more slowly.

The adventure of The Sagittarian Archer begins to more resemble The Archetypal Fool. Both Archer and Fool have eyes upward, gazing at some distant point. but unlike the groundedness of the Archer, the Fool has risked losing solid ground in favor of following the vision he sees before him. While the Archer's gaze is assured and steadfast, the Fool is being led by his feelings and his likely to shift his gaze around.

The adventure this month is less about heading out into the world and more about exploring the terrain of our inner landscape. It is less about having clarity about what we want and more about entertaining detours to the main path to discover something different.

We may find ourself contemplating the meaning and purpose of our life. This may draw us to seek a spiritual perspective or stoke a desire to connect with the sacred dimension of life. We may look to engage or recommit to a spiritual practice. We may spend more time in nature, make art, listen to music, or simply let ourselves daydream. We are looking for an experience where we lose track of time, where the external machinations of the world fall away, and we enter a dreamlike state that feels real and rich with inspiration. In this realm we can connect the dots of our life in a new way that reveals potentials yet to be tapped.

Clear Away Debris that Blocks the Path Ahead

The New Moon has multiple relationships with other planets;

It is conjunct Venus and Mars, exactly Quincunx Uranus, conjunct the Galactic Center and square to Saturn and Neptune

There is a complexity to this New Moon that may have us looking backward as we look forward. What blocks our view of the future or our path to reaching it may be something our past or current life that needs resolution and completion before we are freed up to embrace the future.

The New Moon is playful, sparking an ambition enjoy the holiday season, be spontaneous and flexible, and respond to the impulse of the moment. We also seek an experience that connects us with the multidimensionality of existence that connects us with the larger context of our existence as we look for greater purpose.

A restlessness that arises as we itch for more freedom and greater meaning. We benefit from heeding a call to adventure, to escape day to day routines, and spontaneously explore what instinctively draws us. Yet, we may become aware of an inhibition, something from our past that holds us back, or something that is needing to be resolved and be done with. We may need to release something in order to create the space for something new enter our life.

More on Neptune...

Walking a Labyrinth

Neptune deserves some added attention as it has a strong influence on the invitation of the New Moon and the days following the New Moon.

Neptune is the Dreamer. At the final degree of he zodiac, Neptune has arrive at the very end of a 165 cycle, marking the end of a collective dream.  At this time, we are experiencing final endings in our life and in the collective. And at the New Moon, we are being given glimpses of a new dream, a new longing that will carry us forward.

We can allow ourselves to muse about a different life or existence or place. In the next weeks, we may elect to check out of reality, do plant medicine or go on a spiritual retreat. Our adventure turns away from the world and more inward or to other dimensions of living as Neptune sees sees worldly goals and success as the true illusion, and the dream we are living as the true reality.

The big questions get asked. What is the dream that gets us out of bed each day? What is our connection to our soul, to the universe, to our ancestors, to something larger than ourselves? We may feel an emptiness that life has not yet filled or addressed. Our attention may be drawn to the spiritual. A longing for a mystical or sacred experience of life can inspire us to dive into a spiritual practice so we can maintain a spiritual perspective as we engage daily life.

Likewise, we may overly engaged in realizing some goal in the world and need time to rest and recharge. If we are not adept at listening to and trusting our intuition, or if we lack a spiritual connection, we may be confused or overwhelmed by the Neptune urge.  We may feel in a fog, and need to develop decision making faculties that reside beyond the intellect.  To do this, we have only to follow that visceral feeling, that energetic pull that has us fascinated with a topic we cannot explain.

It is not the time to try and be productive or organized.  It is beneficial to step away from the ‘real world’ and sit in a place of uncertainty while dreams swirl around and through us.  It may be a time where we recognize and surrender a dream that has not been fulfilling.

Mars in Capricorn trine Neptune is fueling the new vision and the new plan (Saturn).  We are looking at the big cycles of our life, and creating the blueprints for a new era, a new chapter of our lives.

So...

Let ourselves be swept into a dreamlike adventure. We can take cues from Alice whose curiosity had her follow the rabbit down a hole only to discover wonderland. Or, we can be like Lucy whose call to adventure had her wander through a big house only to discover a wardrobe that opened into Narnia and a whole other world. We, too, can become immersed in the realm of the poetic, the imaginative and the creative, the mystical and the world of our dreams. Planting our feet on the earth and making something happen will come soon enough. For now, let ourselves be fluid, flexible, curious about what is distracting us from a given task, and welcome what is not planned, so that new perspectives have a a way to enter our conscious mind.
