Gemini New Moon: It's All in the Play

Life is playfulness...

We need to play

so that we can rediscover

the magic all around us

The New Moon on May 26, 2025 at 6 Gemini at 11:01 pm EST

sparks a play between fire and air, Aries and Gemini, helping us feel lighter, more social, and more motivated than we have been in recent months. Our curiosity is piqued, and we can find ourself exploring new ideas, meeting new people or traveling to someplace new (Gemini). Our courage bolstered, we are motivated to take the initiative to follow our impulses, trust our gut and see where they lead us (Aries). It is an excellent time to socialize, participate in activities with others, and engage in conversation especially around future plans. Plans can take shape or come together in a remarkable way if we give them our time and attention.

Gemini’s tendencies for being flighty and superficial are curbed by the weight of Pluto. Our enthusiasm is harnessed for us to give focus to our future and potentials we wish to nurture (Pluto trine the New Moon). While exploring things of consequence, we reap great benefit if we approach them in a spirit of playfulness. By embracing the free-spirited nature of the Gemini New Moon, sudden insights can dawn in our awareness and we can discover new resources for information, collaboration and creative endeavors.

The New Moon is the optimal time each month to set an intention for what we want to see manifest over the next four weeks. The 24-hour window after the exact moment of the New Moon when the Moon is still dark and not visible in the night sky is the optimal time each month to plant the intention for what we want to nurture and grow in the weeks that follow.

The houses where both Gemini and Aries are located in our natal charts will show us the areas of life where we are primed for new beginnings, and where we can look for insights and feel a readiness to take bold initiative.

The moment you start seeing life

as non-serious, a playfulness,

all the burden on your heart

disappears. All the fear

of death, of life, of love -

everything disappears.

Personal Reflection

Contemplating the New Moon, I felt into the Gemini impulse to have fun, be social, travel, and experiment with something new. While many of us may be needing a break or change of scenery to reignite our spirit, Pluto’s influence on the New Moon offers an alternative potential.

What if we didn't have to break away from our life, but could find the sense of play within what we are already doing or planning to do. This thought had me flash back to a weekend training I attended to be certified to teach Tai Chi. That weekend, I was very intent on getting the movements right, doing my breathing right, and living up to a standard of excellence I had set for myself. I had assumed that this is what the Master Trainer who facilitated the training would want of me.

And yet, as she was leading us in the subtleties of the Tai Chi forms, she would say, “Let’s enjoy this together.” If she wanted us to practice on our own, she would say, “Now take some time and play with this form.” I began the training serious and self-critical of any misstep I made. By the end of the first day, my mindset had shifted. I found myself continuously smiling, laughing and enjoying myself. In my earnestness to become a good Tai Chi teacher, I had almost missed the boat. I discovered in that training that all my practice, hard work and good intentions will not make me a good Tai Chi teacher. I discovered that ultimately, it is all in the play.

We are mentally stimulated. Our thoughts carry great power now as they are building bridges to our future. So, it benefits us to be especially mindful of the questions we pose to ourself, as they will shape where our attention, vitality and time is given. How we talk to ourselves and what we say to ourselves at this time will have impact in how our future is being forged. Creating and saying affirmations can be supportive.

The Gemini spirit cares less about depth and more about breadth – ambitious to see just how many things and people and activities and topics we can engage. It is less about slowing down and more about being facile and flexible in response to an impulse and what we feel magnetically drawn to engage. We are wanting something different and we are to seek it through social interaction, new activities, and by talking. We just need to remember to equal time to listening. What we already know either bores us, limits us or has us feeling stuck. Rather than having the answers, the juice is in engaging the questions.

We want to be able to pivot on a dime in response to inspiration. The New Moon gives us permission to change our mind, feed our curiosity, and explore other options. We have permission to investigate other paths and alternatives, rather than just steadfastly remaining committed to the direction we have currently chosen.

Our youthful free-spirited nature is galvanized, and we respond to life with the sense of adventure we had as a child. Typically, with such a strong emphasis on Gemini, we feel permission to go where our curiosity guides us unencumbered by concerns for the future or our security. But Pluto's trine to the New Moon is gearing our thoughts and questions towards considering future scenarios. The Gemini spirit absorbs Pluto's desire to revolutionize our future by becoming fully absorbed in what is happening today, happening right now. For Gemini, the shape of some distant future is created by engaging and playing with what currently interests us. To fully give ourselves to the creative play of what is right in front of us will open the future to us in some magical way.

We are especially supported in exploring new technologies that are likely to affect our lives. It is not surprising that Google calls their AI: Gemini. We are encouraged to explore what AI offers and how it can benefit our personal and professional live. Even if we elect to keep it at bay or discern that we can live without it, we need to know what we are rejecting and what it may mean to not embrace it now.

The very essence of playfulness

is an openness to anything

that may happen, the feeling

that whatever happens,

it's okay... you're either free

to play, or you're not.

Multiple Planets Interact with the New Moon

Pluto trine the New Moon and Mercury. Pluto transforms. In Aquarius, Pluto's promise is to revolutionize our future. Pluto’s presence helps stabilize and focus our monkey mind and give us the force, clarity and drive to explore and give shape to new endeavors. We are motivated to concentrate on future potentials and long range goals. This gives depth and focus to Gemini's curious nature - which unchecked can have us flitting from one thing to the next with nothing to show for it.

With Pluto in Aquarius, the sign of innovation and technology, it is beneficial to explore new technologies that can enhance our life or work. This is an opportune time to discuss and shape ideas and plans that hold the promise of uplifting our life. We are to set aside hesitancy and seek clarity. Clarity will be found when we being to express what has been whirling around in our mind. We can write it or speak it. We need to be specific. This will serve to empower and make the idea real.

Uranus conjunct the New Moon and Mercury. Uranus is electric; so it may feel like we are plugged into an electrical socket. Our interests our stimulated. Our desire for activity, for socializing, and for talking is charged up.

Gemini is the mundane mind that helps us navigate day to day activities and interactions. Uranus, as the higher octave of Mercury is referred to as divine intelligence, or the higher mind. Uranus can disrupt our everyday thoughts and interject an unexpected revelation, truth, idea. A sudden and surprising circumstance can derail us from what we thought we would be doing. Our automatic daily way of thinking, engaging and making decisions may be interrupted, causing us to shift gears to embrace an unexplored possibility or opportunity.

Sedna conjunct the New Moon, Mercury and Uranus. Dwarf planet Sedna is named for the Inuit Sea Goddess. She resides on the bottom of the sea floor and embodies qualities of the wounded feminine, of sacrifice and of regeneration. Her presence encourages us to seek insight in the depths to acquire insight on where we have disconnected from, or buried, something of value. We can discover the hidden stories that have been instrumental in shaping what is happening in our culture and lives. Secrets and things hidden from view may be revealed suddenly and unexpectedly to be recognized, felt and integrated.

The Shadow Side of Gemini. Uranus' presence can egg Gemini on and result in us expressing Gemini's less favorable tendencies, We can watch out for jumping from one thing to the next without completing what we have started. At a gathering of people, we can find ourself flitting from one person to the next without making any satisfying connection. Restlessness can lead to excessive multi-tasking, feeling scatterbrained, chattering on endlessly, gossiping, or endlessly scrolling social media. To counter this, we can first notice that are caught in a mind on steroids and look to, instead, be intentional with our thoughts, attention and time. Pluto's presence helps us to ground and focus the endlessly curious nature of the fleet-footed, creative, playful Gemini spirit.

Our mind is a powerful tool and now is a great time to focus on how to use it more wisely. A revolution in how we live is dawning (Pluto in Aquarius) and we are at the precipice of something new and unprecedented in our life (Saturn conjunct Neptune in Aries). If we can slow down enough to focus and direct our mind's attention, we may be amazed at what is revealed to us now.

The creation of something new

is not accomplished by intellect

but by the play instinct

acting from inner necessity.

The creative mind plays

with the object it loves.

Planets in Aries

Saturn conjunct Neptune

Venus conjunct Chiron and Eris

Five planets in Aries, the sign of taking initiative and exerting boldness, awakens our fighting spirit. We are to find what is worth fighting for and dedicate ourselves to it (Saturn conjunct Neptune in Aries). And we can look to healing the trauma and dynamics surrounding injustices we have experienced or see around us. (Chiron conjunct Eris). Ultimately, as Saturn and Neptune move together in Aries, and Chiron and Eris move together in Aries, we are to take up the mantle of spiritual warriorship, where we take initiative and boldly fight with love and compassion as our weapons of choice (Venus in Aries).

Saturn and Neptune have now both entered Aries, traveling together at the first degrees of the zodiac until September 1 and where they will arrive together again during the winter of 2026. As the first sign of the zodiac, Aries marks the beginning – the start of a cycle where something is introduced that is a departure from what has come before. We are at the new start now.

The watery nature of Neptune is slowing down our impulses. Saturn, planet of restraint, naturally inhibits or holds us back so that we don’t leap forward too fast and instead look to assure a solid and reliable new start. Something big is brewing and with these two planetary giants entering Aries, it will serve us well to look to building the necessary structures - both physical and psychological - that will nurture the seed potentials we want to see bloom and bloom again in the years to come. It has been 165 years since Neptune was last in Aries and 30 years for Saturn. Their presence in Aries heralds beginnings that will be long lasting in the changes they introduce.

Ceres is traveling with the Saturn/Neptune conjunction. Ceres reminds us that we are nurture something. What we are looking to feed is our courage, our trust in ourselves to take risks and move in a new direction.

Saturn, Neptune and Ceres at the apex of a Small Grand Trine with Pluto and Mercury. We are feeling the weight of responsibility around what we want to initiate, intuitively knowing that we are giving shape to our future. It is time to move beyond just thinking about something to now talking it out, moving it out into the world (Mercury in Gemini). As we enter into conversations where we consider options, variables, and potentials, let us explore how we are seeing things unfold five, or even ten years, out. (Pluto in Aquarius). It's a great time to brainstorm or engage in long-range planning. We are supported to draft a business plan or create a ‘mind map’. So, let’s get our take our ideas and express them, let the world give its feedback, and begin to take the initial steps to make them real.

Venus trine Mars, conjunct Chiron and Sedna, and sextile Jupiter. Mid-May, Venus emerged from the shadow zone of her recent retrograde cycle. Like her, this spring, we underwent a journey to reclaim our passion and to nurture our courage to ‘Seize the Day’ and go for what we want. Yet, we may currently feel vulnerable or insecure around taking initiative based on memories of where we failed, were embarrassed or got hurt in some way (Venus conjunct Chiron). So, while feelings may surface related to experiences where taking a risk to try something new didn't go so well, we are ready to embrace what we learned and still have to learn from that experience (Venus sextile Jupiter) so that we can now move forward with an earned wisdom that gives us the confidence to risk again in a new and different way.

Update Beliefs

Jupiter square Nodal Axis

Jupiter looks to grow something. As Jupiter nears the end of its yearlong sojourn in Gemini, we have been given the opportunity to develop our mind - how we focus it, ways we learn and gather information, and in our communication skills. We have also been afforded plenty of opportunity to discern truth from lies, authenticity from deep fakes.

With the changes happening, our beliefs are challenged. There can be strength or foolishness in holding steadfast to beliefs that have served us well. Chances are that there is a core belief or two is outdated or no longer a match for the future that is unfolding.

We are to release an overdependence on logic and reason to resolve an issue, and the belief that through the force of our will we can control the outcome (Jupiter square the Virgo South Node). Simultaneously, we are to soften our perception of ourselves as an individual and feel ourselves as an integral part of something larger than ourselves; we are part of a family, a culture, part of humanity and of creation. Experiencing our connection to larger realities, we can foster a sense of surrender and trust in the larger forces moving through our lives. This can then nurture our belief that we are being guided in some mysterious and beautiful way. Aligning to and engaging the unseen and everpresent, we can intuit our next steps and we can experience synchronicities that let us know we are in alignment and moving in rhythm with nature and our soul path.

The key to reaping the benefits of this uplifting New Moon is to engage conversations, plans, and our future with a spirit of play.
