Cancer New Moon: Raise The Sail

Updated: Jun 26

The boat is safer

anchored at the port;

but that is not

the aim of boats.

Paulo Coelho

The New Moon on June 25, 2025, at 4 Cancer

promises good fortune (Jupiter conjunct the New Moon) if we wholeheartedly embrace its invitation. To fully welcome the adventure that is arriving at our doorstep, we are to find ways to honor two seemingly opposing urges. One pulls us inward: to stay close to home and fortify the foundations that give us comfort and security. The other beckons us outward: to grow, to learn, and to transform.

Staying put is not a true option. We can feel the ground shifting beneath our feet. The question becomes: How do we tend to the need for comfort and stability while also answering the desire to explore uncharted waters? This Cancer New Moon encourages us to draw upon our emotional intelligence and stay centered in our heart so that we are aligned with an inner strength that can help navigate the tides of uncertainty, change, and opportunity. By doing this, we can find a tailwind that carries us forward with a measure of grace and ease.

The New Moon is

  • Conjuncts Jupiter

  • Sextile Mars and Uranus

  • Square Saturn and Neptune

The New Moon is the optimal time each month to set an intention for what we want to see manifest over the next four weeks of the lunar cycle that is beginning. The 24-hour window after the exact moment of the New Moon, when the Moon is still dark and not visible in the night sky, is the optimal time each month to plant the intention for what we want to nurture and grow in the weeks that follow.

The house where the first degrees of Cancer is located our natal charts shows us the areas of life where we are ready to nurture emotional maturity and make decisions that honor our needs.

Wind and Water. Sea and Sky

The sea was not meant to be controlled.

The sea was meant to be sailed.

Jon Acuff

The New Moon evokes the image of sailing...

There is no set course, no painted line on pavement to follow—just open water and shifting wind. Unlike a road we use to get form point A to point B, the path forward is more like the open sea: fluid, in perpetual motion, and shaped by the invisible hands of current and breeze. Unlike a motorboat or car, powered by force and precision, the sail asks something different of us: attunement.

To sail is to enter into relationship with movement itself. It is slower, but not aimless. We are invited into the present, where timing is not dictated by urgency, but by the rise of wind and the rhythm of waves. Every gust is a conversation. Every shift of the mainsail, a response. We are no longer pushing forward, but moving with.

As we edge farther from shore, our vulnerability becomes increasingly apparent. The familiar shrinks, and the horizon stretches out, vast and unknowable. And yet, this distance fosters fresh perspective and clarity. Our senses become heightened. We begin to listen to the world again, feel the subtle changes in the air, and smell the salt as it thickens in the breeze. There's no anchoring in certainty here. Only a quiet, courageous trust in the wind, in the water, and in our intuitive capacity to adjust the sails.

we must set sail –

Sail, not tie at anchor.

Sail, not drift.

The Path Forward is Found with Feeling

Stellium in Cancer

Four planets in the water sign of Cancer (Sun, Moon, Mercury and Jupiter) heighten our sensitivities, directing attention to intuitive hunches, feelings and night dreams. We may need to slow down or find ways to nurture ourselves if we become overwhelmed or flooded with feeling.

Cancer is the sign of home, family, safety and nurturance so our thoughts and feelings naturally will be drawn to what is happening in our private life. We are identifying where our needs are met and where we are out of balance. Issues around security and insecurity are amplified as we look for ways to address what is missing (Jupiter conjunct the Cancer New Moon).

And there is much more to the Cancer New Moon than nurturance of home, family and persona wellbeing; multiple planets interact with the Cancer energies, compelling us to move beyond old patterns of behavior and resolve inner conflict so we can courageously initiate new growth and embody the sovereignty we seek with our lives.

Cancer New Moon conjunct Jupiter:

A Belief that Good Fortune Awaits

Jupiter’s strong presence has a buoying effect that keeps us from sinking into the weight of circumstance or the stresses of daily life. It gives us a new reason to hope, and to believe in ourselves and future potentials. As we initiate something in the days following the New Moon, we may very well feel we have caught a tailwind that moves our agenda forward with a sense of grace and ease.

Jupiter is the eternal optimist. In the tightest of binds, when there is seemingly no way out and no way forward, the Jupiterian spirit will say, "Things will work out. I don’t know how, but they will." Tied to the Cancer New Moon, Jupiter indicates that within the new cycle that is now beginning, we can experience good fortune and happiness. It helps foster faith in ourselves and in our future. We are more willing to trust that life wants to grow and support us just as it grows and supports the trees, the flowers and the evolution of earthly life.

Jupiter is in Cancer until June 2026 supports us in listening to and moving towards what we are emotionally drawn to engage. With the outer planets (Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto) heralding seismic change in 2025, introducing a new paradigm of living as they enter fire and air signs, Jupiter’s presence in Cancer reminds us to stay connected to our feeling nature and bodily needs.

By reaching towards the adventure of life over having control of circumstance, we can discover how to be comfortable within the discomfort that change and uncertainty produce. We have only to imagine ourselves as sailors on the high seas, and not motor boaters cutting across the waters with speed and the force of horsepower. The challenge is not to perceive ourselves a victim, whipped around by external conditions. We are to raise and position the sails in alignment with what we want, then adjust the sails as needed - imagining that everything that is happening is supporting, in some clear or baffling way, our soul's development.

The New Moon and Jupiter sextile Mars:

Focused Action Steps

Mars, planet of action, provides a revitalizing boost—fueling our focus to begin, or begin again. We can be industrious, able to channel our energy into practical and tangible steps that move a plan forward. Our mind is sharper (Mars in Virgo) and we are better equipped to solve problems, analyze options, refine our plans, and clear away what no longer serves. Physical strength and stamina are available if we act in alignment with both our emotional needs in conjunction with the future we wish to create. The actions woe take do not need to be monumental. Sometimes, the smallest of stones can the widest of ripple effects.

The New Moon & Jupiter square Saturn & Neptune in Aries:

Sailing into the Change

June is all about emerging potentials that bring new options and awarenesses. Aries announces a a new beginning, where something emerges seemingly from thin air and sets us on a new course. With both Saturn and Neptune joined at the beginning of Neptune through spring 2026, the beginnings we face as individuals and as a collective are noteworthy.

Let our heart be our rudder (Cancer New Moon) to guide us through unchartered waters. Future potentials may stir insecurity as they past memories of experiences associated with new beginnings stir feelings of sadness, discouragement, sense of futility or fear.  We are to find ways to integrate undigested emotional material tied to the past so we reduce our hesitation and resistance. There is an inner shift ready to take place that will allow us to navigate the seas ahead, without the overlay of limiting perspectives and conclusions associated with past seas we have crossed.

Seagull soaring over the ocean lowers a wing to skim across the water

Twenty years from now

you will be more disappointed

by the things that you didn’t do

than by the ones you did do.

So throw off the bowlines.

Sail away from the safe harbor.

Catch the trade winds in your sails.

Explore. Dream. Discover.

Transformative Change Transforms Consciousness

The Finger of God Points to Mars and to Pluto

Two Yod Configurations cue us that this is a time to open our minds to new ways of perceiving, moving with and making sense of the far-reaching changes unfolding in the world. The ‘finger of god’ is a key feature of the Yod configuration that points to a planet, challenging that planet to stretch, to transform and to fulfill its potential. The ‘Finger of God’ points to the planets of The Warrior (Mars) and to Transformative Power (Pluto).

Mars at apex of a yod with Saturn and Pluto:

Action as a Creative Dance

While tackling the details that are right in front of us (Mars in Virgo), we need to also refocus our efforts in how we tackle them and how we prioritize what details to address as we consciously make adjustments in response to the disruptive force of the future that is interjecting itself into the status quo of our present life (Pluto in Aquarius and Saturn in Aries).

Action is required, but it is not with a single decisive move, but a serious of actions and responses. This is not a time of linear progress or following a fixed course. Returning to the sailing metaphor, it is more about reading the water and adjusting the sail. The road beneath us is alive and moving may call for course corrections and moments of trust. Each action becomes a tack in the wind, measured, responsive, and vibrant. We move, we listen, we recalibrate.

We are engaged more in a dance than a linear execution of a plan. We can think of ourselves as doing a Cha Cha on water - two steps forward, one step back, a plunge down, and then a bobbing upward as we creatively navigate the wind. Progress looks less like charging ahead and more like learning to partner with the elements to welcome change, resistance, and momentum.

Radical new understandings are emerging that challenge our comfort zone and stretch our vision of what’s possible. If we are committed to staying centered in our heart over the need to maintain control, we may find that the very instability we fear is what opens the door to transformation.

Pluto at apex of yod with the New Moon and Mars:

It's About a New Consciousness

We are carried by Pluto into deep waters, across the threshold where old forms are left behind and new truths emerge. We are to find a deeper alignment (Cancer Moon) that can support effective action (Mars). We can sense the swells of changes moving towards us, promising to permanently change and reshape our world. We feel the pressure to navigate our internal conflict to find a new clarity. Rather than aligning with uncertainty, apprehension or fear of some imagined future, we are to quiet our analytical mind and trust our heart to guide us through unchartered waters.

Unprecedented Possibility and Breakthrough

Small Grand Trine (Uranus, Saturn, Neptune, Pluto)

What if all is well and all is well and all is well? What if nothing is wrong? What if all of creation, since the beginning of time 13 billion years ago, has led to this moment here, right now?  What if the transformation that we are undertaking as a collective is exquisitely designed to meet our soul’s deepest longing. This is what the Small Grand Trine between these four planets of generational and cyclical movements is announcing as they each move into a new sign and come into harmonious and generative nature with each other.

While the old falls away, or may even ripped from us… While we seem to have less say over our future and options appear to narrow… while humanity seems on the brink of self-annihilation... there is this shining and beautiful small grand trine that is operating for the next couple years.

This configuration promises fantastic innovation, a renaissance of creativity, and breakthroughs in consciousness that have not been available to humanity before now. From great tension can come great beauty. From the mud, comes the lotus. From the dark of night, comes the glorious rays of a new dawn. Much will be revealed and birthed and created in the next couple years. Some of it will bring heartache, and some of it will be awe-inspiring. Let us each reach for the beauty that is available and also emerging, and not waste energy chasing after what has been lost. Let us let go of who we thought we were and what we have planned for ourselves and open to the gifts and opportunities that are riding in on the waves of the future as they lap on the shore where we find ourself standing.

"There is a Japanese proverb that literally goes 'Raise the sail with your stronger hand', meaning you must go after the opportunities that arise in life that you are best equipped to do." ~ Soichiro Honda
